Default gearshift leaver

Recent purchase of rebuilt tranny top. About 50 miles on the A. Went to get in and the lever spun around 360 Degrees. Difficult driving home with
no fixed position of the lever, but I made it.

Turns out the new lever is made up of two pieces Just above the bell the two sections are attached to each other by a stud! What a surprise!!

You could not see joint as the shaft had been chromed. What scary is that I have replaced a couple units and I don't remember who I did them for.

I think this would work on these re-pro shafts if the joining stud was
also pinned.

Regards, Don

The same thing happend to me with a shinny new lever. I removed it, drilled 3/16th hole and pinned it strait. This did not seem strong enough so I ground off the Chrome and laid a bead of weld around it. Should have sent the lever back but didn't want another and was in need of a lever. Just found an original in nice condition that will be installed in the spring. Don't mess with it, send it back, find a good used one.
