Default Car stolen in trailer

One of our members, Ralph Wright, lost his Model A to a thief last week. He provided the following information:
------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Folks,

I thought you might be interested to know that my Model A has been stolen. I had it in a box trailer at the Willow Self Storage south of Willow Street, PA. The trailer, with the car in it, was taken. The trailer was a 20' black HaulMart with a rear ramp door. The Model A is a 1930 Fordor, green with black fenders and yellow wheels.

It would be prudent for other members to be careful where they park and store their cars.

Also if any should by chance come across anything relevant, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Thank you

Ralph L Wright

Have a picture of the car? That would help greatly.

and any identifying dings and dents in the trailer. This may be why my dad always painted and made our trailers stick out like a sore thumb...

here is a statement from the actual online police report about the theft.. they call it a model T go figure..

WILLOW STREET: Southern Regional Police are investigating the theft of a green 1930 Ford Model T sedan stored in a Haulmark trailer in southern Willow Street. Police said the car was taken between July 28 and Wednesday and are asking anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 872-0536. Investigators said they are reviewing security camera video.

Hearing more of this lately, low life scum are wanting the trailers, not the contents. Not at all advisable to store any collector vehicle inside dormant trailers. Would be nice if the A were to roll over the thief as they unload....

oh yea, trailers are easy to disguise in traffic. Some states don't even require people to license trailers so their even easier to steal and sell.

Another word of caution is i wouldn't advertize as to what could be in the trailer. Meaning don't put a huge ford logo on the side or like i saw today a 5'x6' decal of harley davidson... If i were a thief i would have a 90% shot of knowing what would be inside and anything car/motorcycle/machinery related can fetch a pretty penny.

Now if your trailer is painted up in weird colors or an obvious red stripe down the side or reflectors and extra running lights everywhere some kind of identifying marks thief's may think twice. If they do steal it it would be very easy for someone to spot out and about. How many plain white or black trailers do you see going down the interstate? How many would you see if it had bright yellow wheels and a red stripe down the side going down the road? See my point. Also if your going to be storing a trailer or a car or something over the winter or long periods removing the wheels (at least 2 - they can always put the spare on and drive off) makes it awfully hard to steal a car... Put the car up on jackstands (or trailer) and take them with you and store them somewhere else, sure its a pain to put them back on but makes it 10X harder for someone to swoop in and drive off with your property with out wheels.

The top 10 stolen cars in the US are everyday cars like civic, accord, fullsize trucks of all makes, dodge caravans, etc. Reason is they blend in well with traffic and noones going to bat an eye about a silver dodge caravan that was stolen.

Now ill get off my soapbox and dont get me wrong Mr Wright didnt do a darn thing wrong and it always makes me mad when i hear about someones car or trailer getting stolen. I just try to give some advice to prevent it from happening again!

We need to adopt some of the middle eastern countries polices on thiefs and how to punish them: Alot of them if you get caught blatantly stealing something they will chop off a finger or a hand and shows the public everywhere you go what you've done and a constant reminder to the person of what they did and what the consequences are. I think this would curb alot of theft in this country where the thief's end up with more rights than you do... Because lets face it: noone accidentally breaks into a house, noone accidentally hotwires or jimmys open your car, noone accidentally backs up and drives off with someone elses trailer.

Ok im going to go burn my soapbox now...

well if they do random drug testing for the people who already are on welfare there will be a huge amount of "open slots"

The top of the trailer should be painted with a really bright paint and maybe your initials in big letters. It would be fairly easy to spot from the air, possibly by a news chopper out doing their thing.

Appears a sign painted on top of the trailer in conjunction with Response No. 11 might work, (at least according to the latest newspapers reports we read), that is, if the sign had select wording similar to:

"CONFIDENTIAL TEA PARTY DOCUMENTS"

According to the latest news, today's forces in our current IRS could probably stop the thieves to investigate before they could back out of the Model A owner's driveway.

Like Will Rodgers once said, "All I know is what I read in the newspapers."

Out here in our WILD WEST, they used to HANG horse thieves, why any lesser fate for CAR THIEVES? Cars are the second most EXPENSIVE purchase that most folks make. The Bible says we shouldn't HATE, but I HATE THIEVES WITH A PASSION! (Lord, forgive me.) Bill W.

I was thinking of a sign more along the lines of something like "Fred's Manure Farm", that'd make 'em think twice about taking the trailer?

I hope there's an especially hot place in hell for thieves like this.

BTW, there's a photo on the MAFCA web site home page. www.mafca.com

I'll keep an eye for it up in my area. "If" by any chance the thieves took it for the thought of keeping or selling the A, and not just the trailer, is there any distinguishing item in the upholstery/interior? Cars can be repainted, engine #'s changed but the interiors aren't so easy to change. I did see the nice side shot of the car in your photo. Good luck, I think you'll find the car soon.
