A few months back I asked for current bearing numbers that corresponded to Ford specs. I got good responses, and those helped, but there was nothing for the steering bearings.
What I need now is a Timken tapered bearing number for the two-tooth steering box. This is Ford # A-3571-B, or Bratton's # 5310. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Did you check the bearing cross reference page on Jim Masons web site? Rod

Yes I did, but was unable to find the steering bearings.

Timken # 11BA is the upper & lower brg cone for the 2-tooth steering box. Timken # 13C is the lower brg cup. This is for all 2-tooth boxes EXCEPT the early 30 2-tooth box which uses a different brg angle.

Did you know the 2 tooth steering gear bearings underwent 2 changes in 1930?
In August 30 they widened the brg surface at the worm...requiring a new 2nd bearing # In Dec 30 they changed the angle of worm & cups...requiring a third brg # It's laid out in fine detail in the Model A Ford Service Bulletins and maybe worth a read if you don't mind driving yourself nuts arguing with parts vendors. ![]() When I was rebuilding mine I wondered to myself how many people are driving around with tight steering....due to the gear having a wrong combination of cups, worms and bearings? |

Yes, I was aware of that. I'm working on a late 29 two tooth and should have specified that in my inquiry. Thanks for your suggestions.

Do yourself a favor and just buy the rebuild kit from Bert's. It has everything and is very reasonably priced.

I learned today that the current number is Timken 11BA-4000, though my local bearing supply house couldn't find anything like that in their inventory.
![]() I finally just bought a couple from my Model A supplier.
