This question has only to do with the A3541 Control Rod Lever, A3545 spring, and pin at the lower end of the 7-tooth steering column. I realize the upper end is nickel plated.
The JS (pg 8-2) states: “Springs/levers pinned to unfinished lower ends of rods.” “Springs/levers dipped in gloss black enamel before assembly.” Am I interpreting correctly … once the previously painted (black) springs/levers were installed, the end of the lower end of the rod & the ‘pin’ would not be painted (unfinished) ...? ![]() |

I think anything considered "unfinished" can be painted "in the interests of preservation." I usually choose flat black and have done everything falling in this category this way as a kind of indicator.
I imagine fluorescent orange would be marked lower than FB. Joe K

Semi gloss clear is a good choice for protecting a natural finish.

Although I am partial to "parkerized" too. But that would not be a paint, would it? Joe K
