Shock removal 39 Peeekup
I need to remove a couple of shocks from their perch attachment. I don't have heat. I don't think I can swing a BFH like I used to. Can I use a tie rod end wedge bar? Will this destroy the link(links are the sheet metal sealed type, not cast dog bones.)
Thanks. Clem |

Hi Clem: You can use your tir rod endge bar. It will work just fine, should pop right out. Good luck, Jack in San Diego

Re: Shock removal 39 Peeekup
Thanks I have been grumbling about my suspension for some time. I disconnected the shocks and worked them. Left front moved with zero resistance. It took a little fluid but no resistance. The left rear barely moves. The result has been that the PU wallows along. I have some spares that are a little better which I hope to install. I messed up the carraige bolts so I have to chase up some new ones. Clem

Re: Shock removal 39 Peeekup
It seems like someone once posted a way to hold a hammer to one side of the shock arm and somehow hit the link and the impact shock would get them apart. I don't think a BFH was needed. I know I read that on one of these old Ford Forums. Maybe it was on the old Fordbarn. I've also used a tie rod bar to remove them. Would be a good move IMO to send them to Bill W. He does good work and I believe he still gives you new mounting hardware as part of the rebuild price.
