50 Ford ign switch removal/replace
Hi I have a 1950 Ford sedan and I need to replace a faulty ignition switch and I have no idea where to start.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Geoff Kiwi |

Re: 50 Ford ign switch removal/replace
I believe you need to push forward on the switch from the back side and then you can remove the chrome bezel and the switch can be removed from the back. The switch is spring loaded.

Re: 50 Ford ign switch removal/replace
The above sounds essentially correct. I know how to do it on my '51, but I believe the '50 may be different.
If all else fails, I can tell you my procedure. |

Re: 50 Ford ign switch removal/replace
Well I got it out thanks, once the bezel is removed it is just a matter of pushing it from behind and giving it a twist, and it is released from the dash panel. It is a nightmare trying to work from under neath though, I ended up removing the front seat and it is still an almost impossible task to see what you are doing.
New problem, how do I get the key barrel out of the old one, there is a little flat spring that needs to be held aside, I have the key in and in the central position and I still can not budge the key barrel. Geoff Kiwi |

Re: 50 Ford ign switch removal/replace
Thanks TJ, there is a hole and I can feel spring pressure pushing with a piece of 1/16 brass rod but the key is to sloppy and I can't get a decent grip with pliers.
The switch is no good so I am going to do a bit of carefull disecting with a cut off wheel on my Dremel tool. I have a new problem now, a stuck handbrake cable/handle mechanism, new post on the way. Geoff Kiwi |
