51 Lincoln rear drive shaft yoke to 50 mercury driveshaft
Does anyone know for sure if I can swap the rear yoke from a 51 Lincoln driveshaft onto a 50 mercury driveshaft? I have a 51 Lincoln rear end that I'd like to use in my 50 mercury as it's from an automatic car. I'm swapping the backing plates to use the mercury rear brakes already.
Thanks

Re: 51 Lincoln rear drive shaft yoke to 50 mercury driveshaft
Lincoln stuff was all heavier duty. The rear connection on a Lincoln is different than the Mercury. Lincoln used the heavier Dana 53 rear axle and it is hard to find new parts for. The L models or baby Lincolns were a little different from the H models or Cosmopolitan models.
The U-joint and rear axle drive flanges are different. I'm not sure a Dana 41/44 pinion drive flange will even fit a Dana 53 axle. All I know for sure is that they are different part numbers with possibly one exception but the 8C-4851 may not be common on all Dana 53 rear axles. This flange was used on F1 and F100 ford 1/2 tons up to 1954 I believe. Lincoln Dana 53 has no interchanges in the Hollander manual. It has a larger diameter differential carrier ring mount and the rings and pinions are heavy duty. I don't think any one manufactures replacements. They used 20 spline axles. |

Lot of different sized "combination" U-joints out there. I have a T-10 out of an early Mustang hooked to a Chevrolet driveshaft pushing a Granada rear end. |
