Cam Regrinding questions
Search feature not working well at all this morning, need to ask a few questions before I spend money. I am building an 8BA with a 4" Merc crank, Eddy heads and a Super Dual intake for mostly street use.
I mostly understand how a regrind works, and realize most all flatty cams are regound. Just have a few questions. 1. I believe a stock Merc cam, or something very similar will work well for me. I assume I need to supply the used cam core. Do I need to buy a used Merc cam to achieve this, or can another cams be reground to the MERC specs? All I have now are BA cams. 2. Will the reground cam be rehardened? 3. Adjustable lifters or longer valves when I am done? I know this question is up for debate. What is really wrong with adjustable lifters in a street use application? thanks |

Re: Cam Regrinding questions
1 - Get a used Merc core. Make sure the journals are up to size and the fuel pump
lobe is good. 2 - Not necessary on a Merc core. Regrinding won't go through the original heat treat. 3 - Either stock type or adjustable lifters will work fine. About the same cost either way. Nothing wrong with adjustables on a street engine. |

Re: Cam Regrinding questions
Thanks Pete. I will try to find a Merc cam. Think I may have a local lead. You are a cam regrinder aren't you? If so, I will PM you. I imagine conducting biz on the forum is frowned upon.
