Default 1966 Mustang 9 inch rear end oil change

I have bought a 66 Mustang. The differential oil may well be original (now almost tar!). Would someone out in Ford Barn land happen to have the shop manual instruction and parts list to properly open up the rear end and do an oil swap? I would be grateful to anyone who could scan and email this document. [email protected]. In appreciation: Ron

if it were mine I would drill and tap the hole in the bottom of the axle housing to what ever size pipe plug you want to use

I don't think the metal is thick enough for a tapered pipe plug to make a good seal.
Most auto parts stores have self tapping oversize oil pan drain plugs that you can
use a gasket on to help seal against any leaking. Use as short a plug as you can get.

You need to know if the rear end in your Mustang has posi-traction or if it is a
one-wheel-wonder ? You'll need to know that to get the correct grease or additive.

Might be better off to just pull the center section so you can properly clean all the gunk out of it. Not that big a deal and probably just as easy as trying to drill a hole and tapping it with the resultant metal filings inside the housing..

My '59 has a drain plug at the bottom of the housing, maybe the Mustang does? If not, I agree with pulling the ham out.
