Default Service Bulletins / Service Letters

I was just trying to comapre the Bulletins to the newly aquired Service Letters but find that they don't really match up. I was always under the impression that what was in the Service Bulletins was what was sent to the dealerships for added information or UPDATES . If one was restoring a car for judging would either come into play or are they judged solely by the Judging Standard? Can someone explain the differences and reason for both the Service Bulletins and Service Letters?
Thanks for your time.

The Model A era Service Bulletins were published monthly to create a “living” growing service manual for the Model A. The “Service Letters” were just any correspondence between Ford and the dealers.

Service letters are branch specific and cover anything pertinent to the dealers serviced by that branch. They include general service issues and often include items that went out to the dealers nation wide in the Service Bulletins which as noted was the "service manual". When you find the same information in both you will note the letters precede the bulletin by a month on average.

If/when there is a conflict between the Standards and original Ford documents then either follow the Standards or apply for a variance for judging. When you find information or details seemingly overlooked in the Standards you would indeed be wise to utilize that information.

I'd recommend buying all three groups of SERVICE LETTERS, as well as the SERVICE BULLETINS. Lots of good information in all four.

Are there any plans out there to reproduce other service letters?
