Default PB & J 31' Late Model Pickup Build

Hey guys, brand new to the barn. My pops and i just acquired a fun new bonding father/son project. calling it the pb & j build because of our names, don't worry it won't be a tan and purple color scheme. The deal was too good to say no to, so we are jumping in head first. Never done a resto before so this should be fun.
We are getting the truck mid project. Body has been off and frame has been redone. The motor is sitting in it and turns freely. The cab is "loosely" bolted on. And everything is in primer. The plan is to fit all the body together and make sure we get out any bending or fab work that needs to happen before paint. After assembly we will move onto cosmetic body work and paint prep. in the mean time we will get the motor running so we can go through everything else and test out the chassis components. After all that, disassemble, paint, and reassemble. Anyways.......ONTO THE PICS.

my daughter approves

stay tuned, thanks for any insight.

Looks like a very good one to restore.
Will you be changing the engine color? I see it has a long rubber hose instead of the lower steel pipe.

i think the engine color will be close to the same. some of the paint is peeling so we are gonna redo it. i will probably just get a brush on engine paint and see how that looks. as for the long rubber hose, it is getting removed. i have the steel pipe and will order the two short hoses to go with it.

Welcome!! Looks like you scored a good one. You and "Pops" will have a good time with that. Yeah, I'm with you. While the body is off I'd repaint that engine the correct color too. It's a lot easier now as it would be later. Have fun!

by correct color do you mean the green? we are not going FULLY original to stock spec on the build. yes we want it to look more stock than not, but also just function well and look nice. not sure yet how stock we are trying to get it. for example. body color choices are limited when going factory colors. i am thinking some sort of gray would be nice, or maybe a tan.

like this

or this (wheels would be black on mine though)

but i do also enjoy something like this which is nowhere NEAR original.

Make sure your final coat of paint is compatible to the gray primer on the cab now.

Oops! Miss-read your original post. Thought you were going back to original engine color. Anything you do to make it the way you want it is the way to go. Lots of color combo's out there. Keep posting pic's on your progress.

she's alive!!!!!! took a little work but after new points, cap, rotor and retiming, she runs. kinda just rigged everything up to fire it, so now i have to assemble a little bit farther to be able to test drive and check the chassis components and leaks and such. this link is to my instagram, i think it should work.

Look at those smiles! Great job cleaning it up and getting it going. You will be proud to own one of the oldest Ford pickups in town! Built Ford tough....

You are making good progress & seem to be having fun with it. Looks like an early '30/uncommon ''eye brow'' front left fender there. The bead looks to continue across the front rather than ending at top side.

Be sure you have the generator hooked up to the battery when your running
the engine or you will fry the generator.
