Default Crankshaft Pulley

Are the crankshaft pulley's from Bratton's any good? I was trying to straighten my bent one, did not know it was pot metal/aluminum? and it broke/chipped.

Thanks,

Jacob

I've never used a repro, but the one I saw from Bratton's looked good.

Well, we will see how well it works. It looks like I need to clean up the keyway a little. Does it look too wide to anyone though? I have not seen one off a motor, but it looks wide for a key.

Yep, it's a "rattler," looks like it's been run loose in the past. How did you clean it, looks like new! Not in the dishwasher, I hope! Bill W.

It is a new 'repro' from Brattons.

poor pulley . will rattle & break . ive got 2 at different times from vintage ford with good results . when put on , look to see if it tight . my bolt was hitting the crank just before it got tight . i used a washer (larger than the crank , but small enuff to fit the pulley correctly) ..to make it right .....

I'm trying to decide if to even mess with this one, or send it back, the keyway scares me.

You think somebody would have spotted that when they pulled it off the shelf.

I called Brattons, This one is going back. They are going to inspect one before they send it to me this time she said.

It looks like they are cast with the groove, rather than machining it into the pulley. Excellent service so far there, I had not dealt with Brattons yet.

I'm running one from Brattons I bought about 2 years ago. So far, it's fine.

Also, if the end of the notch was cut with a radius, instead of square, it will be much less likely to start a crack there. That's the same reason a radius is on each end of each crankshaft journal. Every original pulley I've seen has always had a round end to the notch.

Someone above said that as well... I thought the 2 piece would be more to go wrong. I guess I should have went that route anyway. I figured I had to take the radiator off to get the old one out, might as well put the same style back on.

Couldn't get the old one off 'cause someone had welded the crank bearing to the crossmember on one side???? So, I jist pulled it forward and cut it off with a Saws-All & went back with the 2 piece screw together one. Put a dab of blue Loctite on the L/H threads & DONE! Looks just like a stock pulley. There's more ways than one to skin a POSSUM! Bill W.

I would not use it, very poor workmanship. If the key way is that bad, what about the rest of it. No real machinist would ever let work like that go out the door. I would ask them to pay for shipping, they should have never sent a part that bad.

They offered to, I didn't have to ask. That said, it was in it's sealed box from Taiwan. I doubt they inspected this one.
