OK lets add to this one, how do you distinguish the difference between reproduction finger pulls and original ones?

If I were to guess it would be finish, I don't recall having seen repops myself, I know they make them. The ones on my 29 standard frame were brass, painted black, and the screws on the outside of the frame were 'filled'. I can post a picture later if need be...

Look at the back of the pull and you will see the difference compared to an original

I'm guessing since you ask this question that you picked up another frame for your car. Was the original frame missing?

I just looked up some things and the earliest drawing on file for the "finger clip" is dated 11/7/28. I can't be certain but do believe that will prove to be the very first. Most of the drawings that pertain to major changes in the Roadsters and Phaetons such as outside door handles and a host of other changes were drawn 11/3/28 and 11/7/28 so the addition of the finger clip fits in there nicely.

It's not quite as easy to distinguish some repros from '30-31 clips except the majority (I've seen) were shaped poorly where they contact the frame. The '29 clips however are shaped quite differently and are pretty obvious once you've worked with originals. Maybe someone can take a pic and post it here???

Please keep in mind that I have little personal contact with repro parts so there could be some improved items over the last ten+ years I've never seen.

Great! That fit's nicely with what I came up with above!!! I didn't mention the wiper but that was included in the records I looked up.

This looks like a good place to ask a related question. What is the placement of the pulls on the bottom rail of the windshield? Or,;

A. What is the measurement from the drivers side of the frame to the center of the left hole?
B. Measurement from hole center to hole center?
C. Measurement from passenger frame edge to center of the right hole?

Thanks,
Jon

On my 29 original frame

A - 9 5/8"
b - 21 15/16"
c - 9 3/4"

Now, remember the side of the frame comes in at the bottom, i hooked my tape directly opposite and inline with the hole. I want to add the a & c measurements were taken from the outside of the frame

My Jan '28 does not have the pulls.

(Left) comparison of 28/29 & 30/31 ... I apologize for not being able to quote the 'source' of many of the pix i have on file (many from Doc K's articles in the club magazines) ... i never realized i would come across a site such as this so just didnt bother to keep that info ...

(Right) early pulls from a scrap w/s frame ... pretty rough casting w/ seam previously mentioned

Charles,
I never realised there was such a difference in the 28-29 to 30-31 pulls, thanks for the pics. I always felt the 28 29 were more for a lady's finger than a mans. I guess others of the time thought the same thing...

Boy....you Guy's were busy!

Yes, I changed out the W/S frame. The one on the car was brazed, then chromed.
The one I now have for the car I think is correct. It has a hand wiper, also the
holes for the "G" type mirror bracket. Now..the "finger clips", I'm guessing were
added, they are 30-31 style from the information above.

Charles, I singled and double clicked on you photos to look for detail..it didn't
work and I don't know how to make them larger....any help?

Again, so much info in a short thread, thank you.
