I know this is somewhere in the many books I have but just when did the 1928 Model A/AA Fords end and the 1929 Model A/AA Fords begin?
Was it December 31, 1928/January 1, 1929 OR was it with the change in early 1929 with the change to the Twolite system OR something else? What about the separation of the 30-31 models? Thanks. Pluck |

Did the early 1930 AA trucks that used leftover '29 cabs all come through with 1930 front fenders, or did some carry the 1929 style fenders?

Most used the 29 fenders, hood, radiator and radiator shell, but at the same time had the 30-31 headlights. Rod

Note that the A and AA commercial vehicles used the '29 bodies and related sheet metal until mid 1930 (about June). These vehicles used the '30 A and AA chassis which included the steering gear/wheel.
As far as I know, these vehicles used only the '29 sheet metal (i.e. fenders, hood, etc.). Most of these units used the '30 commercial head lamps. But, I have original photographs showing AA's with the '29 commercial head lamps and the '30 AA wheels. I have not looked for this situation on the A commercial vehicles. As far as Plucks question - I don't think there was an official year change (like in today's world). A '29 A/AA would have been off the assembly line the first of January. I think it is only important what the month/year of the vehicle is for figuring out what parts would have been used. Just my thinking. |

Here is another side note that Marco and I discussed on the old FB. Many of the AA's in early 30 used a 2 piece front fender mount. I do not know if Maro's question on these were to guide him in research for the JS or just for general knowledge. I have not bought a copy on the JS to read that part yet. Hopefully I can purchase a new copy this fall sometime. Rod

I have seen many Early 1930's with the twist lock gas caps. But I have never seen one with anything other than the screw on radiator cap.
