In my car I try the best to keep most parts old and pre 1950.
It's just the way I like it. But it's impossible has it all vintage as tires, battery, exhaust, wires, glass, interiour and gaskets and piston rings and maybe pistons, some bolts and nuts etc etc. I guess all this things can be possible to find vintage, but somewhere a line need be take. On outside door handles I found std Henry and got help fix them, superworks from a Fordbarner. But on the inner ones I has a struggle. First I need locate what is Ford 32 5W look like, and some said 33/34 was 32.. etc, but most is cracked and its is hard to find and can be expensive. One try sell me got very upset and mean do its matter on a Hot Rod ? Well it's not about that but do I like 32 I like that and not 34. New is cheap, but I really try stay away from Taiwan stuff. I got help find a ( maybe std NOS 32 inside door handles = if lucky ) but indication was 'it could be', but when I got them it shore is repro, maybe older repro. Indication was nice cast and tan was yellow and had rubbers inside ( as new Taiwan should not has, or ? ) They was nice and after a while I realised - Ok I use them. Idea was to find 32 std window cranks. I got some to look at but no one was Ford 32 but equal, but ball was loose and most is cracked in the square. It's not fun to get parts after a long ride and nickel plate them, and then open door or roll window and one has the handle in the hand or floor. So idea now is to get repros. The chance find older USA made might not be big. Idea is nickel them. -But maybe all get them from the same factory, or is some brand better, but I guess after a while the tool get ugly and handle get ugly. Ideas on this ? Here’s a new rabbit hole to go down: have you thought about using 49 Ford or Merc handles? Two different styles that were popular in the 50’s on Ford hot rods.

From what I heard the rubber/plastic inside the square was there 32 and on older repro but Not in new repro.
The ones I has was thought be a older USA made repro when rubber was in ( door handles ) |

Its a rubber cushion in the bottom of the square hole that looks like a rubber fuel line. The square shank of the remote butts up against it.I presume it was to absorb vibration. All the NOS 32 door handles I have come across had them. Not plastic.

The original inserts are an alternate spelling of useless and did not prolong the life of the handles.

The idea of the ones I got had the ’rubber’ inside that could mean old NOS, but they are to nice to be NOS as nickel would age.
So ide this was older US made repros, as new repros don’t had that rubber. -Do not a rabbit hole but a rubber hole :- )) Anyway, I will use them and go repros on the window cranks to. So questions is, who has the best made out now ? Or should I search for older repros - if they was cast finer ? Old 32 ones, No, to much work, money and they will or might brake fast. Need realise not std Henry here ( to bad, but… |

Try Bob Drake or Dennis Carpenter for the handles. I suspect all the V-8 Vendors carry the same from these suppliers.

Neither Drake nor Carpenter have any in stock and perhaps never will again. It's a sign of the times.
When they were first offered, the Drake standard handles were available with nickel or chrome plating. Later, only chrome was offered, but they could be easily stripped down to nickel. The Drake handles were the best. |

I do note many shops has them and its 19 bucks each, how can anyone make this parts in cast metal, polish arm/ball, mount it, chrome it, a box, ship it over ocean and then a store has it on shell advertise it and pay sellers - and make money ?
Unbelivable ! Next must be Walmart at 14.95..on the pair. Gee, who like a Taiwan made car, wish I found a set Henrys both door handles & window cranks. But I has to give up on that. -One car inspired me is Dick Wades 3W and he used 49 Merc. Cool but maybe more 50’s ideas but they is big and for the 5W to big ( my way see it. |
