1938 Foglight Switch
Seeking info on correct 1938 Foglight switch. Do other years interchange?
Is it push/pull or twist? How many wire connections are on OEM switch? As always, thank you in advance! Steve [email protected] 863-651-3276 |

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
Have you looked in the V8 club restoration book? I believe it is push/pull and it is only necessary to have two wires one is the polarity and the second is the light. If you run two road lights their power wires connect together near the firewall. Best to look in the book.

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
Thanks for your response!
I notice there are three terminals on the napa switch. How did you wire it on your ‘40? Last edited by 38convsedan; 10-30-2022 at 12:00 PM. |

Here is the same NAPA switch in our 39’ I really like the fact that it is a lighted switch. Stretch |

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
I dont know the correct answer but if I were to guess i would say a plain metal push pull switch cause thats what Ive seen on an NOS spotlight unit from 52 for trucks. Things dont change much. But this is only a guess. However I too added a twisted aftermarket lighted switch. Much handier for knowing its on.

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
Are you looking for a switch that looks era and works well, or are you trying to make it "as Henry built it"?.
If authorized 1938 Ford parts are not a concern get one of the switches that clamps on under then dash in a color you like and use it. If authentic 1938 is your goal then you need to consult the 38-39 book. |

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
Did a 38 come with fog lights, and a switch? I think not. Ergo, any old switch will do, IMHO

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
Ford offered factory authorized accessory fog light(s) in 1938, and the kit came with a specific switch. My memory is you could buy one or two fog lights, but I need to re-read the 38-39 book to verify that detail.
I don't have the correct switch on my 38, but the car is so far from being a Dearborn winner it doesn't matter. |

Re: 1938 Foglight Switch
As a general rule Aux lighting, Fog/Driving should be hooked up with the power being supplied by the head light circuit via a separate switch controlling the AUX lights. ie; the headlights have to be on in order to turn the AUX lights on.
To avoid over loading the circuit, it would be best to have a relay in the Fog/Driving light system, that way the headlight system would not be over taxed with the circuit draw from the two AUX lights.
