Default 1937 Ford Distributor (Helmet)

Have a 1937 ford that won’t start so I removed the distributor and I think I found the problem. The wire that goes to the coil on the other end of the wire there is a carbon piece that makes contact with the rotor. I put a meter on continuity and put one lead on the end that attaches to the coil and the other lead on the carbon tip on the other end of the wire and I’m not getting continuity and I should be correct?? If that is correct not sure how to fix it because I don’t see any of the parts available.

Also the Vacuum piston is really worn down and not sure if they are available either.

I would get a repaired coil from Skip Haney and fit that, heave that adaptor plate, my 33 had one of those fitted when I first bought it, if you washed the tail light, it would not start, it was so bad,
with the correct coil it does thousands of miles no drama.

Get yourself an original coil from a parts swap or on this for sale forum and get rid of that adapter plate. I had one on my car when I bought it and noticed that they flex. Send your original coil to Skip Haney and have it rebuilt once, it will last longer than you car will.

While you at it have your distributor rebuilt by either Charly NY or or
