Stop light switch
I'm working on a 32 BB 1 ton the stop light switch has me puzzled, its mounted on the cross member after the brake pedal and it is pulled to the on position with a piece of wire and a spring when the brake pedal is pushed, problem is the switch is on already and the pedal pulls it off, I googled the part number and it seems I have the right switch for the truck I'm guessing its mounted incorrectly, where is the correct place for it to be.

Re: Stop light switch
You might be better off posting a picture of where yours is and asking for comments.

Re: Stop light switch
I doubt it will show up in a picture Charlie, its above the battery on the top flange of the cross member, and the bones from the rear axle are in that neck of the woods also and the driveline,it just doesn't seem to be in the right spot to me.

Re: Stop light switch
Not necessarily the same, and maybe pointing you in the wrong direction, but the switch on the passenger car mounts to the front left corner of the transmission shifter housing.

Re: Stop light switch
Pictures always help, always!
It should be behind the pedal on the cross member, rides off the pedal. It's a simple brass "slide" switch with a spring. Could be stuck, easy to fix. something like this.... or not Last edited by Tinker; 11-01-2018 at 11:40 PM. |

Re: Stop light switch
The switches come in NO(normal open) or NC(normal close) sounds like you need a different type of switch.
The spring setup indicates you should have the NO type that activates as soon as pedal is pushed and then the spring stretches as the pedal travels further. |

Re: Stop light switch
From memory there is a rod off the brake pedal that in the normal position pushes against the spring loaded switch rod, pushing it in and keeping the switch open. When the brake pedal is pushed forward the rod moves forward releasing pressure on the switch shaft allowing it to spring forward, closing the switch and lighting the brake light .
The picture posted is of the original switch -If this has been changed any thing is possible

Re: Stop light switch
This is what the part number brings up, in the position it is in it is in the on position, pulling on the eye on the end turns it off,I don't see how this one would work. Finding or creating the rod for the push off switch might be a small problem, I may put a different type of lever switch in its place. This switch would work if there was a rod as Karl said to push on the end.
Thank you for the replys |

Re: Stop light switch
Tinker,
With respect, your photo is of a later switch and not for a '32-'34 big BB truck. Karl, also take note. Unfortunately I do not have a photo handy of the correct switch. |

Re: Stop light switch
It's not much help, but the part number is: BB-13480 and it is not a carryover Model AA part.

Re: Stop light switch
One is a push and the other is a pull switch (I think). David does the original look something like this photo from the HAMB?

Re: Stop light switch
That photo from HAMB seems to be an aftermarket switch for LHD '32 passenger cars and commercial vehicles in an upside down view. The reason it seems to be an aftermarket version is the apparent lack of brass bushing on the ends of the housing that the rod passes through that original switches had.
The photo below shows NOS versions of both the LHD and RHD switches with the original linkage to the brake pedal for '32 passenger car and commercial vehicles. Unfortunately, I do not have a photo of the BB-13480 switch for the big trucks. |

Re: Stop light switch
I've only seen a switch that was a longer. Real odd. Maybe BB-13480?
Maybe GB SISSON can add? Last edited by Tinker; 11-03-2018 at 10:37 PM. |
