351w Harmonic Balancer question
Rebuilding a 351w. Old harmonic balancer had much of the rubber ring broken off and missing. Bought a new one and it has NO rings bulging out like the old one. Is this just an updated style or is this the wrong part? Other than that, the part is identical. Is this a part that I need to buy separate and install in the groove of the HB.
Thanks for the help. Rick |

Re: 351w Harmonic Balancer question
Ok, so I know almost nothing about the 351W's and their balancer pulleys, but I do have something to add / ask to get this started, and maybe save some time until someone else shows up....
Do you still have: The old balancer pulley? the year of the engine it's from? any relevant optional equipment on the engine? The receipt for the new balancer pulley? Photos of both balancer pulleys that you can post here? My 2¢ worth.... I like new parts to be a duplicate of the old ones as much as possible. It helps prevent the aggravation of having to return things. The 'universal fit' parts don't always fit nearly as well as sellers would have you believe. They do it because it cuts down on their inventory expense. It is possible to get the old one rebuilt if it comes to that, and you still have it. http://www.damperdoctor.com/ |

Re: 351w Harmonic Balancer question
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pfs-80006 The center ring is removable some applications need it for pulley alignment, some do not. It also has both 3 bolt and 4 bolt patterns for pulleys and all 3 different timing marks that Ford used, some applications require a spacer read the tech specs.

Re: 351w Harmonic Balancer question
the important thing is the counter weight. what you bought is probably a universal design, just make sure it has a 28 ounce imbalance and not a 50 ounce
