Default 1931

I did not take my 1931 Tudor out for a drive today but I was driving along in my modern car and notices a phaeton before me... As my wife and I got closer it was not a model A but a very BIG Phaeton.. At the stop light I asked the owner what it was, he said, a 1931 dual cowl Packard Phantom.. I as I owned a 1931 Model A and he said, "Oh those are nice cars"... I will say the Packard really moved fast of the light...

I have parked my 31Tudor next to a31 caddy before, and it makes our little A's are pretty small in comparison.

they are long. We have a Packard museum here in Ft. Lauderdale that has a dual cowl or two but this picture is not from the museum. 126 or 133" wheel base. Our A's are what, 103.5"

That reminds me of a joke:

Pete: "can you name 3 cars that start with P?"

Sam: "Plymouth, Pontiac, Packard"

Pete: "wrong..........those cars all start with gas"

Recently, I was dickering with an OB about how much his 12 Cyl Lincoln Continental was worth. The car was a huge question mark! Did it run? "Of course it runs! It was running perfectly when I parked it in 19whatever!" Duh! My offer of $8000 was soundly rejected! But wait a minute! What's the 12 banger like to get parts for. Maybe it needs a new block. Or a crank. Where do you go and what do you pay? It's the same with V16 or V12 Caddies and Packards, only more so!

Terry, there's a guy near me that collects those Pierce Arrow cars. He must have 30 or more of them. All restored. However, he never drives them for exactly the reasons you stated- Parts!

The great thing about the Model A is we can drive them all the time and not have to feel guilty or that deeply sore feeling in the wallet area every time it makes an unusual noise.

It feels kinda "snooty" to drive by his place in the Model A and ahooga as we go by. You just KNOW that deep down, he's a little jealous that we Model A guys get to drive our Model As around while he can only look at his cars.
