Default Info on refurbish and repaint of antique Jacks?

Sorry for the MASSIVE picture!

I picked up an "Elite" mfg in Ashland, Ohio. Pat Pending 1921. Also the folding crank rod. Very clean, everything works. Not too greasy.

It has a vertical driving gear, and a horizontal driven gear, and two coaxial rams that drive up together. It works well, and lifts the car high enough to change the tire, but there is some roughness.

There are two vertical channels cut into the larger coax on opposite sides of the lower ram that appear to allow access down into the guts of the base. Also a screwed on plate just below the horizontal bevel gear.

I'm thinking there may be a snap ring or other holding device that can be released through these channels??

I've seen some Model A Club sites with info on different period correct jacks, but they seem to be more about classifying (and warning against ratchet design!) than about repair/refurbish.

Is there a site with more information, or someone who is good at refurbishing these?

Thanks

Since they are simple to use I expect them to be simple the work on. But, I know how things quickly spiral out of control. You can try the garage journal. There is a guy who goes by 'hiball' who is totally into jacks. He deals will hydro. Jacks almost exclusively but he may have some insight for you.

I'm thinking that it would easy for you to restore. You say that it works well, so you don't have parts missing.
First....... see if it is easy to take apart.
Second..... clean it with WD40.
Third.......then grease it well.
Forth ......Reasemble it.
If you want to re-paint it, do it before greasing.

I could not find an "Elite Manufacturing Co." registered in Ashland Ohio in the '20s era, though maybe our Secretary of State deletes old registrations after a certain age. There is a site somewhere that allows you to research patent information for free. The patent diagrams show some detail though I doubt there was any type of locking lever or whatever you referred to.

I always see these jacks with surface rust so whatever paint they gave them must have been very watery indeed.
