1928 tudor, all original.
Been running great all year, haven't driven in a couple weeks now. Wanted to move it yesterday and won't start. I have to hand crank this one. Got gas, got juice. Lights are bright. Took the distributor top off and turned the key on and got a spark at the points. That's about the extent of what I can do without adult supervision. Usually the car starts easily on the first or second pull, now not so much as a cough. What should I do next? Tyler |

Try filing your points and resetting the gap. The same thing just happened to me and that's all it took to fix it.

It appears you have primary voltage if you see a spark at the points, but, how about secondary voltage ?
How long have you owned this monster and have you always had to hand/crank start it and why ? Are you using enough throttle and choke ? Do you see fuel coming out of the carburetor throat ? Have you flooded it ? |

Just a thought does the distributor cam turn when you crank the engine? I had the front timing gear strip some teeth causing the camshaft not to turn disabling the oil pump and distributor. Good Luck

Sorry for not getting back sooner. To answer some of your questions;
Had the car a couple years, never had problems starting. Must be something wrong with my flywheel, have tried several starters and they stick on and won't disengage and will suddenly engage while driving down the road, and no, it's not me inadvertantly hitting the post with my foot. I've got gas coming out the carb, throttle and spark set as usual, mixture richened as always when starting. Thought maybe I'd flooded it so left it alone for a few hours and tried again, not even a cough. Cleaned the points off with sand paper, plugs look good. Don't know. |

Most times after flooding the cylinders will dry out and then don't want to draw. When cleaning/drying and reinstalling the sparklers just squirt a little gas in the cylinders and start right away.
Have you checked to make nothing has happened, like a sudden vacuum leak or some such thing. You never answered the question about secondary voltage, do the sparklers spark ? If you have compression, spark when its supposed to get spark, and, fuel being able to get to the sparklers, then, it should start. |

Update; I must have flooded it yesterday. Only choked it a quarter pull this afternoon and it fired right up and ran great. Sorry to have wasted everyones time on this but I was sure it must have been something else. Live and learn, I guess. Thanks again everyone.

Tyler.
I am happy you got it running but I would be concerned about the starter problem It sounds like a switch issue because it sometimes engages while you are driving |
