This is a specific question, but general knowledge sought. on my 32 tudor 4 cylinder the wiring diagram is on A-15-2…..
In looking at the ammeter connections, is the diagram looking at the back of the gauge? In other words the Yellow wire is on the drivers side and the Yellow-Black are on the passenger side? ![]()

You have a 50-50 chance, hooking it wrong won't hurt anything, the gauge will read backwards

Like Kurt said, just try it one way, and reverse if necessary. You don't even need to snug it all up to do the test; just touch your wires to the terminals with the lights on or stepping on brake pedal--if meter doesn't show discharge, reverse wires.
Even if we knew the answer to your question, it might be different for a repro meter. Steve |

When there is a 50/50 chance of getting it wrong, 9 times out of 10 I will.

I know I can figure it out, but would be better to know how to read a diagram. i would think the diagrams are standardized?

Yes.....wiring diagrams are usually standardized but it depends on who drew the one you are using. Usually components will just show the "+" and "-" next to the terminals and use a standard symbol for the component. |

Jim1932:
The ammeter is a center-off device. When current passes through it coming from the battery the needle will point one way, when current passes through it going into the battery it will point the other way. By reversing the two wires attached to the ammeter it will reverse the direction the needle will point. The design intent was to have the needle point to the negative when current was passing out of the battery, and pointing to the positive when current was passing into the battery. The ammeter doesn't really care, either way will work. It is just a matter of the plus and minus printed on the scale. Switch the two wires around to reverse it. Tom Endy |

Jim,
Assuming I am correct you might want to add that A-15-2 is a page number in Appendix A of "The 1932 Ford Book". Let me know if I am wrong. Charlie Stephens |

Busted… I meant to post this in the 32 forum, but it works here as well. Got a short in my new wiring somewhere, (blowing fuses) so trying to make sure I set it up right. Going to hardwire the headlights to not deal with the spring loaded mess.
