Default Electrical question

I have a motor on a wooden cradle that I want to test run before I ship it, does the ballast resister need to be grounded to the motor since that where the ground for the battery will be???

NO, NO, that would cause a short circuit to ground. The ballast resistor should never be grounded. It connects in line or in series with the ignition switch power feed to the ignition coil. Have a look at a Ford flathead wiring circuit diagram to see how it is connected. In the car they are mounted on an insulated fiber board on the inside of the firewall on most V8s. Regards Kevin.

Since there is no radiator, the test run will of necessity be quite short. Why mess with the resistor at all?

A very preliminary photo of the motor, there will be a radiator with a cooling fan attached!!! That's why I "mess" with it!! as well as headers and mufflers
