Old School Parking brake fixture for stretched cable
I tried searching for this but Mr. Google doesn't seem to remember the JC Whitney/ Western Auto gadget that clamped onto a stretched cable to 'shorten' it. Probably got outlawed. Seen them on the old wrecks I drag home. Do they still make them?

Re: Old School Parking brake fixture for stretched cable
It's actually for my '92 F350. I have had the rear axle mostly apart with new brakes, seals etc after a roadside disaster with perhaps too many beams on the load. Everything works well now, but no matter what, the parking brake doesn't grab until that far left pedal is about a 1/2" off the floorboards. Thanks! A simple device, just puts a kink in the cable to use up length.....

If necessary, 'gang' them. I think my old truck has at least two of them.

Re: Old School Parking brake fixture for stretched cable
Yep, the two nuts are used to adjust and tight the J-hook and go either side of solid part at the end where the hook is now. The J-hook needs to be between the studs to pull on the cable.

Interesting, I've always just seen them double nutted on the outside. I can see your point though. |
