I gap my champ 18s at .035 to .040 (5.5 Snyder head) with a bit of improved ign. Have you googled autolite to see if they have any advice regarding such. My take...5.5 is NOT much above stock cr, but your cam/bore are improvements. However, why run a 'stock' ign. with other improvements. Maybe improved ign would allow different (more) gap ? What Stipe cam ?

I get the idea that you are looking for some more 'bang' for $ invested , no? 'Things' that go together to create more power is what to look for, IMO.

BTW...how do you use/run your engine, I.e.- till it's thoroughly / uniformly hot.. long runs. Or just to putt to store/local grub/beverage run ? Plug selection and comp ratio and how used kinda dictates plug gap/model. I think that as a general 'rule', the higher the comp ratio, cooler plug selection ? However, with higher capacity coil/improved ign system...larger gap can be used.

As the compression increases, the spark gap needs to decrease. I would go with J FRanklins recommendation

I tried .025 but found my plugs fouled, then tried.030 and improved last set at .032 runs o.k. I,m using Ib330cam the engine has great power and performance,I jus wanted to know if someone had found a setting that worked really well with Snyder 5.5 and
Ib330 cam thanks for info.
