Kwik-way line boring
Was looking at purchasing a kwik-way line boring set up. Can we still get the tool bits that are 5/16th inches to make face off cutters?

Re: Kwik-way line boring
If you talk to your local insert tooling supplier ,he will have something.
I got all insert tools for my old boring bar. Lawrie |

I tried Goodson and Regis and McMaster Carr. No luck. If you have a name of a supplier, I would appreciate it.

If you are going to use it to face a thrust surface, you will probably have to grind it yourself and dial it in on the bar you will use. |

Try Lacy Williams Equipment—- 908-387-0087
Don’t know about now, they used to have insert cutters for LBM, perhaps they have thrust cutter too |

Re: Kwik-way line boring
Not sure that Coder has line boring tools, but worth a call. If not, any tool and cutter grinding shop can grind round high speed steel cutter blanks into facing tools.

Re: Kwik-way line boring
MSC Industrial Supply. Part #72678121. It will say TRC5 C2 on it.
They just need a little massaging to work. The back round side should be sanded down a little until they just slide thru the hole in the bar. Try it like it is, but I massaged the tip with a touch more radius to get it to cut like I like. They also have one that will work for the facing cutter I don't remember the part number. |

Hey Mr. 'R'., ...that was always the issue I had when I had the K-W style cutters made was that the boring bar hole seemed like it was about 0.001-0.002 undersized from what they started as blanks. I haven't used my LBM in awhile but I also recall that the OE set screws had an imbedded ball to align the cutter to be parallel with the length of the bar. The original K-W cutters had a groove in them, didn't they? What do you do when you are using those MSC cutters with K-W set screws? Do you grind a groove in those or change out the set screw? |

Re: Kwik-way line boring
A simple flat on the tool bit seems to work just as well as the OE groove.

Re: Kwik-way line boring
Yes as Dan says the flat works just fine. and the fact that you have to take a little off
the MSC cutters to get them to fit the hole you can get a good fit and the cutters don't move. |
