Default Anti-Seize?

I haven't purchased anti-seize in years, but the tube I picked up the other day is bronze colored, instead of the typical silver color. Does anyone know what the old and the new stuff is made from? I thought the old was a powdered aluminum and oil mix, but I'm not sure. Thanks

They make Copper, aluminum and aluminum & silver based Anti-seize. I use the Aluminum based anti-seize more than the others, just because I have a large container of it...LOL

You could look up the MSDS sheets and it would tell you what ingredients are in your anti-seize.

Go to your local hardware store, ask for plumpers anti-seize. Same thing.

With Caterpillar anti sieze, the copper colored is used for high temperature applications like manifold bolts, head bolts etc. The Caterpillar silver colored anti sieze is a general purpose antisieze.

I found the copper type works better for hard use/outdoor equipment. After a while the aluminum type seems to dry and turn to powder.I have an Allis Chalmers HD 11 bulldozer,1961,and the last complete undercarriage rebuild was around 1972.All the roller and blade bolts loosen right up,and then unscrew like they are in heavy grease. The copper base stuff is still sticky and you can see the copper flecks in it.If it was the aluminum stuff it would have been dried up by now.The bolts would still have come out, just a little harder, and might have needed a little heat.Years ago the Cat rep told me not to use it on any engine bolts that thread into the block, not that it would hurt anything, but if any got into the oil through a hole that opened into the crankcase it would show up in an oil sample as bearing material, copper or aluminum. We would be tearing down an engine looking for a problem that was not even there.
