28 Tudor Emergency brake location
Hello, so I bought a 1928 Ford model a Tudor at a auction last week. When I went to order a Front floormat all of the parts shop on on line are telling me 28-29 emergency brakes are behind the gearshift lever. Mine is to the right. I went ahead and ordered the mat for the 30-31 because it looked right. Now IÂ’m starting to worry about if itÂ’s supposed to be in a different spot what else might be wrong. Now for my question. Is my emergency brake in the wrong place and if so what had to be changed to put it there?
Thanks |

Re: 28 Tudor Emergency brake location
Originally, the first cars built in 1928 had the emergency brake located to the left of the driver, adjacent to the kick panel. Later in '28 it was moved to the front of the shift lever. Sometime later, and I'm not looking at the judging standards, it was moved to the right of the shift lever. You have a 30-31 transmission tower in your 1928 Tudor. To move it back to the 1928 configuration, you will need to find a 28-29 shifter tower. That may involve other linkage as well, I'm not sure about that.

Re: 28 Tudor Emergency brake location
If your "A" is a mid to late 28 the emergency brake lever should be in front of the gear shift lever. If it is to the right then at some time in the past the transmission could have been changed or at least the transmission cover was changed. Early to mid 28s the lever was to the left of the clutch petal.

Re: 28 Tudor Emergency brake location
To relocate the handle’s position, wouldn’t the E-Brake cross shaft need to be replaced also, or would the rod to the cross-shaft still work? Asking for a “friend”.
