Default Oil Return Pipe Query

My car is a 1930 coupe, I have bought an "Aford-able" oil filter kit and a 90 degree filter adaptor. Whilst waiting for the oil pan to drain ready for removal I thought I would fit the new valve cover, so without checking I went ahead, nice, fits a treat except the oil return pipe, to short. Looking at pics on the Barn I have the earlier pipe and cover and it states they are not interchangeable, I must be reading it wrong, or missing something because the way I see it the new valve cover shouldn`t fit ? or do I just need to get hold of the newer pipe ?

Yes, the pipe location changed slightly and with that the length of pipe.

Getting hold of a pipe over here will be a problem, although my pipe is the old shape would it be ok to braze in a piece to extend it ?
Here`s a couple of pics of it.

Sorry the valve chest wasn`t meant to be there, that was for another post, just wanted anyone to see if there was anything out of place.

The oil return tube on our '31 has been cut near the bottom end and a piece of hose w/clamps installed to join the 2 pieces together. I assume a previous owner needed the longer tube and only had the shorter one. When we got the vehicle it had a rubber hose on there. Worried about the rubber deteriorating from the oil, I replaced the rubber w/a piece of clear vinyl tubing. Kinda neat, you can see the oil flow when it's running.
Sorry but I can't find the picture.

Why did you decide you needed an oil filter?

Weld solder or braze a piece in or fabricate a new pipe and solder your old ends on. It can be done.

I see them on ebay quite often. Here's one for $7 if your interested. (not mine). Don't know what shipping to England would be tho. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ford-model-a...BVHqv8&vxp=mtr

Being from England, is your car right hand drive? And is it the special small engine?

I'd just buy the right pipe from Bert's or ebay.

Tom- its lhd got the larger engine if I can find the right pipe I'll buy it but meanwhile I'll have a shot at extending mine
Y-blockhead- thanks for the link had spotted it doesn't ship to england
J franklin- going to give it a go and braze in a piece
700 rpm- It will help keep the oil cleaner, maybe boost oil pressure, I'm not an engineer just listening to others, and reading thru other peoples posts and making a decision based on that, it can only help not harm...............
Thanks for all input.

Dennis, I asked because I have also considered a filter, for the same reasons you state. In the end, though, I decided the benefit was minimal and the cost was too great. I drive my cars all the time, all stock, and just make certain I change my oil every 500 miles.

700rpm - Yes, I know, I weighed up the cost, especially as I have import etc., when the old girl is finally done it will be my only transport, well her indoors has a car but I want to use the `a`, it`s a hobby if you like.
I intend to keep it stock, it will never be a show car, to many little changes i.e. red engine and wheels, incorrect bolts - I found removing the engine pans a pain in the butt so I fitted riv-nuts easy as you like now and other little things but unless you know your `A`s` the mods aren`t to obvious

Thanks, it doesn`t look bad, in my case it would be hidden by the oil filter, i have a piece of steel tubing on order, didn`t have any the correct size, going to have a go at brazing a piece in, got a bit of vinyl as backup in case it goes wrong lol.
That`ll be two of us looking........................
