Default Convertible Top Adjustments-49/51 Merc

Does anyone have any info on adjusting sagging top rails. mine on my '51 Merc sag a little over the back edge of my doors when the quarter (rear) windows are down.

I have a friend with a '50 that does the same thing, but his is worst.

Any manuals out there? If so where could I find one, or buy a copy of the pages needed.

Volume 2 of the 1949-51 Lincoln Mercury Overhaul Manual tells how to trouble shoot the convertible top hydraulic sytem, but I don't know of any manual that tells what to do to improve the "fit" of the top rails, etc. I know there are various set screws in the main top castings that do provide some adjustment.

I was wondering if there were any bushings that could be replaced that may have worn out?

I went back and looked in my manual again and found some info. I am not sure if there are any bushings available, but for some reason I think Bill Hirsch might make some of the special bolts for convertible tops. Here are the photos of what I found.

Here's more info. What ever you do DO NOT overload the main casting or it will break as it's only pot metal. Don't ask me how I know. I still have the hydraulic cylinder and front seat mechanism if you need it. Also have the door window switches if you need spares. Hope this helps.

19Fordy,

Thanks a million... This will shed some light on my problem. I will also try and find one of the manuals for future reference.
