Deck Lids
What is/are the differences in 28/29 and 30/31 deck lids? Just picked up one at an auction, trying to determine year, thanks, George.

Re: Deck Lids
Although the 28-29 deck doors are the same size as the 30-31 deck doors,
they differ from each other on the inner skin construction. The 1928-29 inner-skin construction of the deck door is recessed on both ends (Fig. 1) where the deck door handle shaft comes through the outer skin for both trunk and rumble seat assemblies. This requires the short extension handle and the A- 41604/A-41604-A lock assembly. They are both the same size. The 28-29 is resessed on both ends where the handle goes through to the inside and the 30-31 is not and takes the long extension handle.. Pluck |

Re: Deck Lids
First, before you go too far, make sure it is an A deck lid to begin with.People tend to call old car parts Model A or Model T no matter what they might be.I have a deck lid marked in crayon,Model A.It ain't no Model A part though. It was bought at an auction by a man that needed one, nobody seems to have any idea what it fits. Some GM and Mopar guys seem pretty sure it is not like anything they're familiar with either.

Re: Deck Lids
"Fits Model A" is a favorite term on eBay for anything remotely related to "old" and "car".

Re: Deck Lids
It seems to me that when a 30-31 lid is converted from a trunk to a rumble, they can't get the handle inside the metal and they have to put it in the channel with the strike on the upper shelf, like the 28-29. This is a way to tell if it has been changed
