Borg Warner overdrive, built into the torque tube. The overdrive quit engaging and the owner passed away before he got around to repairing it. I'm not very good at working on these, but did try to get some ideas from Tom Endy's posts and several others. Friends have also come by and done their thing with advice and meters and such. The conclusion I'm getting is that the solenoid is in need of replacement or rebuilding. It's typical Model A. 6V, possitive ground with a push button kick down switch, all done back in the 70's. It's in a big sedan, Murray body 1931. Nice car and I'm just trying to help the owners son get it fixed. I havr a similat set up in my coupe, but it is wired 12V neg. groung and no kick down, just one electrical wire to the unit fron a switch on the column to the solenoid and the cable on my shift lever to engage it. Works quite well, 4:11 rear and 33% overdrive.
