Mine did that at it was the ignition armored cable. The insulation inside the cable became old and dry and was breaking off in three different places. The wire inside was shorting out to the outer cable. I replaced the armored cable and all was good. I left the cable clamp off of the cable since I had no intention of wanting to break a seal on the head just to remove the distributor.
