If it looks like the babbit is "good enough", you might consider a poor mans rebuild - depending on how the bores check out. If they are in decent shape and not too worn, rusted, tapered or in otherwise bad shape, you could hone the cylinders, put new rings in it and then do a valve job on it and probably be in pretty good "runner" shape. Be worth considering - while you spend time on the longer "full rebuild" project. I will say that having a car/truck that is running and driving (while you take your time on a full rebuild) is a pretty good idea. I did this with my 32 Cabriolet - one of the smartest things I did as I was able to enjoy the car while I toiled away on my 2 year engine project. Best of luck!
