I believe there is more than one type of neoprene, and some ate alcy/gas resistant.
There must be as I haven't had a shrinkage issue with it.
Silicon is always a bad idea with gas, it swells up like a Big jelly octopus when it gets gas on it.
Just check that the gasket material is ok for alcy/gas.
I've found the regular bearing shop type washers are generally a bit hard and won't seal in a situation where a cork based type will.
Just my experience.
