Been driving my '28 roadster pickup for 45 years and the chains have created a neat swing scratch pattern on the bed. It's a beater and the scratches attest to the many miles of enjoyment and use. Maybe a small bungee down to the tailgate hinges,or the chain covers sold by some vendors.
