2liv, give that engine bay a good scrubbing before you jump at pulling the head. Clean her up with some degreaser, tooth brush and follow up with hot soapy water. Dry it all of and fire it up and get it up to operating temperature. While shes idling take a visual and see what you can see. The white powder looks like some kind of reaction between the outside surface of the gasket and what ever else that was near by the engine. Shut her down and do a retorque of the cylinder head following the correct sequence. Might be all she needs besides a repaint. The tops on the Bus. and Sports are pretty different from the "Special" coupes, yours looks like a Special to me, and a great start!
