Back in about 1960 my Dad took me and some of the neighbor kids for a ride in the back of the Model A pickup, was only going to go a few blocks, got stopped and ticketed. In Illinois.
So it was illegal then.
He would have probably been OK, but decided to do it on the Main Street in town, should have stayed on the side streets in the neighborhood. The Cop made Dad call my Mom to come and get us kids, Cop did not leave until we were in my Moms car. I remember all us kids were pretty quiet until after the Cop left.
