Tom, I think it is a V8 pressure plate. Isn't adjusting one something of a black art like voodoo thing?

Looks like Ted's tool is to push the fingers down (wood blocks in manual) to stop cover warp. 0.34 inches is 8.64 mm which would be the 8mm spacer.
