Don't give up. I'll take some picts of some parts I just did. They came out great.
I've found if you can either heat them with a heat lamp or place them and the spray can out in the sun, helps the paint go on a lot nicer.
Plus, shake the can literally until your arm starts to hurt. 1-2 minutes is not enough time IMHO.
