Mitchell OD splits each gear into two ranges. Handy for pulling hills, but requires 2nd shift lever. Search for recent thread on one man's installment experience. Can be used with stock trans or with Mitchell trans in stock A box but modified with synchronizers and different gear ratio option.
Other options include a Volvo mod, Borg Warner mod, and GM 5-speed.
