Check your tailight wire with an OHM meter- continuity tester, you can use a known good long wire to connect to one end of the tailight wire and bring it to the opposite end. Now touch the two ends with the meter one on each. This should make a beeping sound. The battery or ignition should not be on for this test. This will tell you if you have a "break" in the wire.
