I don't think any of us run our cars around on dusty dirt roads, at least I don't so I followed Fords instructions, " Wash with gasolene(I use laundry soap) rinse and dry, coat with engine oil and replace". I have run the old 35 since 1959, still runs good and uses no oil so must be an safe method.
