After conventional traps set with peanut butter rid my basement of rodents, repair of broken vent screens and plugging in several high pitch noise making devices has kept the critters out of my basement for the past 20+ years. Humans don't hear those devices, but animals do, including family pets, so don't use them inside the house, just where you don't want any animals to go. For my purposes then, knowing that bait attracts all animals, I only used that to get rid of them initially, and used the other means to keep them out.
