Default model B rods

Good morning. I have been cleaning up parts and starting to assemble the B engine that I got a few weeks ago. It is a diamond block with forged counterweight crank. The Babbitt was done by shop unknown for previous owner. The connecting rods are babbitted and have an oil well cut in the babbit directly over the dipper, but do not have the X shaped oil grooves . Is this an omission or are there more than one school of thought on how to do this. Should I cut some grooves before assembly, or put it together as is? If I cut them is there guideline as th how deep? Thanks, appreciate the help. Jim.
