Now, you say that you have re-polarized the generator. Let's try a NEW experiment.

With your BATTERY disconnect
turned-OFF, can you
disconnect BOTH wires from the generator? That should be the smaller FIELD wire on the side, and the larger ARMATURE wire at the rear.
CAREFULLY BEND BOTH WIRES so that they will NOT touch anything nearby.
Now, turn your BATTERY disconnect switch back to ON.
Now, is the engine ATTEMPTING to TURN-OVER by itself? IF YES, turn your BATTERY disconnect OFF!
So, did ANYTHING happen?
