Mystery solved. Back in the 70's my then wife was driving a 2.0 Pinto.
Bob C you sparked my memory to 4 cylinder engines and I thought of that one. For reasons I can't remember now, I have a spare 2.0 distributor in my inventory of parts and I checked it and sure enough I got a match.
