Default Timing 101

I see a lot of Model A's with late timing. You can tell by the sound and my hearing is going. A lot of people do not get the play in the dist. right. Of coarse the carb gets the blame. I'm starting to think a lot of guys would be better of marking the pulley and using a timing light. If your car will not get up to speed try pulling the choke a little. If that does not help you probably do not have a carb problem. If it does help you have a gas flow problem. It really is that simple, if you have not changed a lot of other things.

Late timing Reduces power, cause it to run hot, makes for poor gas milage. Can cause cracks in exhaust to cylinder walls.

We tend to make things harder than they are.
