I'd agree, but I've had decent luck matching gloss black on a 'close enough' basis. Depends on how obvious a location the repair is as well. Near the hood latches - frequent touch up, not so obvious.
There are three other challenges that will make it difficult to get excellent results:
Fading. New paint just isn't going to look like old paint, even if the color matching is perfect.
Gloss. Almost as important as color, will show at certain angles more than others, but at the worst angle, ouch, it's obvious.
Blending. How the new paint is blended or transitioned into the old. It's an art.
